What is a Doula?
Like travel guides in a foreign country, birth and postpartum doulas help support new families through the life changing experience of having a baby!
Whether it’s a family’s first baby or their tenth, a doula can help make the birth and postpartum experience better. Today, a doula is defined as follows:
"a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible."
Countless scientific trials examining doula care demonstrate remarkably improved physical and psychological outcomes for both mother and baby. Doulas have a positive impact on the well-being of the entire family.
Research shows that women who use a birth doula are:
less likely to need Pitocin
less likely to have a cesarean birth
less likely to use any pain medication
more likely to rate their childbirth experience positively

I can't say enough good things about Joyful Journey! I was insecure about my first pregnancy and all of the unknown that came with it, but Brittany helped me through it all. Even though labor and delivery did not go as planned she was there for me all the way and handled herself and the situation very well. I couldn't have asked for a better doula for my first experience and recommend her highly. She's knowledgeable and compassionate. Always had great suggestions and you can tell she truly cares. If we decide to have another baby I will be hiring Brittany again!
